Usborne Whodunnits

Various

1992-1994

A more advanced puzzle books series from Usborne, this time with one longer singular whodunit puzzle thread into the longer form novel.

Usborne Whodunnits

After Usborne Puzzle Adventures proved a successful formula, a few series with slight variations emerged in the 90s. For 'Usborne Whodunits' stories were given a longer length (despite still being 48 pages - more text was included on each page) with less emphasis on the puzzles to solve on each spread.

One Single Puzzle

In the place of double page puzzles were non-specific clues placed throughout the book, all leading to the final single puzzle of the book - who was the culprit of the crime?

Clues ranged from newspaper clippings, maps, diagrams, or illustrations (from the Puzzle Adventure crew) which the reader can view to deduce the suspect on the final pages.

With only 3 books, and only lasting two years, this series wasn't as strong as the books with a stronger puzzle focus, but still had a lot for the reader to explore, in the intricate illustrations and detailed clue pages.
